I came into my room and there was a web directly across the inside of my doorway even though it had only been a couple of hours since I last walked in here. Of course I immediately thought of this old Far Side which is never too far from my mind

So Keaton Batman retired after murdering a criminal in front of their kid, something that also kinda made Jason Todd stop murdering people, at least for a little bit (he realised that as the son of a murdered criminal, that killing people who are criminals can impact their families negatively regardless of how bad he deemed them as people).

Y'know think that Keaton’s Batman would have been aware of the collateral damage (this also being a lesson Batfleck apparently unlearned, what with him allegedly starting to murder people upon his return in BvS), considering just how many people he was murdering on a frequent basis.

Like, law of averages at least some of the criminals murdered by superheroes who use lethal force had families who would be negatively impacted by a parent or partner getting, say, thrown off a cathedral (Batman 1989), blown up with dynamite (Batman Returns), or to use a more recent Batman example, crushed to death by Batman using another car full of henchmen as a means to kill even more random LexCorp employees during a car chase.

ALSO, if the purpose of the cut scene was to introduce a No Kill Rule to the Keaton ‘verse Batman retroactively, the fact that in the final cut of the movie he mentions that he retired because “Gotham is now one of the safest cities in America” implies that regardless of the emotional impact of his murders had on himself, The Ends (In-Universe) Justified The Means…. Which… isn’t great.

Batman and WB’s fetishistic obsession with turning him into an unhinged mass murder.

Name a more iconic duo.

You can’t do it.

Hence why the Robert Pattinson version is kinda the best live-action version of the character, he’s the only version (besides Adam West) that both is anti-murderer while also doesn’t cheat by killing people regardless (Ra’s who Bruce murdered by inaction, and Harvey who he killed by shoving him to his death into a pit).

The Riddler in the Battinson film is basically a deconstruction of the “Wouldn’t it be cool if Batman killed criminals” idea because he basically is Batman if he killed criminals

He’s a lonely isolated orphan emotionally scarred by crime and mad at the world both for taking his parents from him and its general injustice, whose taken on a theatrical persona that is designed to strike dread into his enemies while hiding his identity but unlike Batman in the comics he murders his enemies

And yeah it turns out that actually, in a realistic setting, what someone who does  that looks like is a lot like a fuckin serial killer

I finally switched to firefox and I’ve seen a lot of posts about the effortless importing of preferences from chrome and how it’s important to support non-chromium platforms, but nobody is talking about the loss of productivity that happens when beautiful women come to your house to kiss you on the mouth because they heard you use firefox now. nobody’s talking about this

I really hope people online aren’t getting the wrong impression of unions and that they’re flawless Things that will protect them from any and all mistreatment and that strikes are fun little treats union workers get

Unions are People not Things. Union leaders can fuck up. Unions can definitely operate in a way that gets you low wages and poor benefits if you’re not being represented well.

A union by itself does not guarantee you anything. Unions take work and money to run. You pay dues, you go to meetings, you vote. You protect each other in a union. You don’t join a union and magically have everything taken care of for you.

Strikes are a powerful tool but are scary. They’re not a goal to achieve. Unions don’t aim to go on strike during negotiations.

fresh, clean no-terf version for reblogs!

Your mom and aunts aren’t on tumblr.  Please warn them about this as well.

[Image description: Two smartphone screenshots of a Facebook post by a person named Sheila Toll posted 2 Sep. It is black text on a white background and the post is public. The post reads:

I am a Family Doctor and I want to keep a promise made to a patient.

Julie was a healthy, post-menopausal woman in my care who came in for a periodic health examination. One of my routine questions, in what is called the “Review of Systems”, was to ask if she had experienced any vaginal bleeding.

She said “No” but then laughed and added, “Other than when my period came back for a few months last year”.

All health care professional are taught early on that ‘vaginal bleeding in a post-menopausal woman is Cancer of the Uterus until proven otherwise’. This comment by Julie was, therefore, a red flag (no pun intended) prompting further questions, an examination and an ultrasound of her pelvis.

Julie was surprised to see me so concerned, especially since the symptoms had not recurred over many months.

Sure enough, a pelvic ultrasound and tissue sampling confirmed Cancer of the Uterus.

Julie underwent a hysterectomy and radiation therapy. She is now healthy, cancer-free and is expected to stay that way.

After all this was done, Julie sat ME down for a talk. She told me she’d had no idea a ‘short return’ of her period after menopause was a danger signal. Furthermore, she addressed the topic with friends over coffee and discovered that, out of 20 women, NONE of them knew this symptom was abnormal! She admonished me to “Tell women this! Don’t assume we know it!”

From that day on, I have kept Julie’s advice in mind when talking with post-menopausal patients. But recently my wife suggested that I should take this to a wider audience.

So, Julie, this is for you:

If you are a post-menopausal woman and your period ‘comes back’ or you have even one episode of vaginal bleeding, TELL A HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL and insist on having it investigated!

Wishing you all good health and long lives. End image description.]

this clip from make some noise s1e8 with oscar montoya and brennan lee mulligan is the only super mario bros content i care about personally

brennan lee mulligan has the greatest superpower: the unlimited ability to make an absolutely off-the-cuff monologue and then follow it up with the ultimate turnaround.
he can share the power with others

but credit also needs to be firmly planted in the hands of oscar for hearing the prompt say “dramatic video game cutscene” and then going “got it, mario and luigi.”

The people who wrote this law should be in jail. The people at Facebook who shared private information should be in jail (and yeah, they should have known Facebook isn’t private, but that’s beside the point). A 19 year old who made a choice about her own body doesn’t belong in jail.
